Hello, I've got an African Goliath Tigerfish about 4.5 inches long at the moment, and the little bugger is incredibly skittish. Any movement he detects in the room, he's sprinting up and down the glass on the side of his tank. He isn't trying to jump out quite yet. It has gotten to the point that his nose is wearing down and he has apparently lost some of his front teeth. My first guess would be cover most of the tank with a sheet to keep him from getting excited, but where the hell do I go from there? Any suggestions/opinions would be much appreciated!

One of my GATF is still exactly the way you described and he's about a foot long already. His snout is always kind of banged up and recovering.. Front teeth missing from colliding with the tank.. My other larger Gatf and VATF don't do that at all anymore and they are in a tank that is pretty much too small for them already. I think the skittishness really depends on each individual fish. have you tried some massive wave makers to simulate violent current? That helped a little for mine..

37 gallon with no tank mates. I've got a small pump in there to give him some current, but I could stand to upgrade it. Perhaps I could get him some riddalin? Lol...

You aren't alone keeping a juvie in a small tank but imo that's your issue. I keep mine in a much larger tank and he's very chill

Mine's about 4 inches and I can't seem to ever find him skittish, let alone bang against windows. It's a Vittatus though. He's in a 180 with mean tankmates, but he does eat and has not freaked out when I come near the glass yet.

He does dart left and right to avoid contact with the odoes, though, and if I pictured him in a 37 gal, I guess he would be kind of hitting walls with his moves.

ATF's vary personality amongst individuals greatly as I have noted from the past of having several fearless and a few extremely sensitive ones within the same batch.

I have a 5" vatf and I always heard about how jumpy and skittish they are even how some have died from crashing the tank because of lights. I was suprised to see how bold mine is. Doesnt have a skittish bone in his body.

37 gallons may be the problem though
