Ok we got it. Don't provoke him and I sure he won't bust balls as much. If ya got a problem with it PM Matt don't derail this guys thread. Were talking sharpnose here and these guys are interesting little fish. Somewhat of an enigma to keep if you ask me.:D

I agree, and I'd like to hear more about what you consider a specialized setup for these guys... they look almost like mini whites, it would be great if we got an idea of specific requirements. I think some ideas would help the OP as well, perhaps even some suggestions for the size he suggested. Smoothhounds pop into my head.

Agreed.

As for seriously thinking of keeping Atlantic Sharpies - Mattiej, is definitely the guy to talk to. Like I said in an earlier post - He was successful in keeping these sharks for 4 years. The reason why he lost them - is because he went on vacation - and the person he had taking care of his tank - ended up screwing up his shark lagoon - killing all it's inhabitants.

Huh? mini whites? - I don't think so. To me Sharpies tend to look more like mini-blue sharks - only with shorter pectorial fins and more grayish in coloration. But they are definitely very interesting little sharks.

Yeah I think smoothhounds would work in the tank size listed. I know JayFB keep smoothies in a tank like that and they are doing well last I heard.

As for a specialized set up. I am thinking a net on top would help:D But I am also thinking that round might be better for these guys since its less likely for them to hit the sides in a round setup. For size I am thinking at least 15' round to start. I also think they stressed out in my pool cause they got tossed in with 3' to 4' sharks. As Ken said before groups are key too. And lastly I have been doing some reading on some old bonnet head studies and I think color of the tank may play a roll in certain sharks rubbing or hitting the sides. I am not really ready to get into that yet.:D

Oh yeah I am thinking 15' for a 12"-14" sharpnose. The ones I had were between 10"-12". I have also been told from different sources that small sharpnose don't have the immune system to survive the hook mark and die of bacterial infections.(Don't know how true this is)

That is really sad! Yeah I know Mattiej did really well with these guys but he is so darn secretive about his stuff:grinno: so I don't ask him about stuff anymore

Oh my god! I think I might restock then throw the tank sitter in afer chumming the water!!!

Yeah - I believe Mattiej may still have some juvi Sharpnose - which he caught in NC last summer.

But looking at some of his older posts on SRC - he states that part of the key to keeping sharpies has to with how they're caught and transported.

Great care has to be taken with the capture and transporting of these sharks. He uses a 250 gallon oval tank with filtration and air to transport sharpie & bonnet pups in. And uses a 15ft diameter pool as the QT for young sharpies to acclimate in - before moving them to the larger shark lagoon.

Thats petty much what I am planing on doing when I head down south. I have an 8' round transport tank that I am working on now. I am modling it after what dynesty uses to transport the great hammers in and when I am done with that I going to make a 5 or 6 foot round to put in a pick up truck for shorter trips. On a side not my sharpnose were transported with a much larger shark and I am sure that didn't help there stress levels

I'm gonna agree that Sharpnose is a two fold shark.

Catch/transport and then the set up kept in:

Super high O2 right after catch, and a transport big enough for them to circle in.

A well established system and a group of sharpnose to school.
