Attempted Skinny Loach rescue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the two are showing signs of eating. That is a GREAT ratio for recovery ahead. I have medicated with Parasite Guard by Jungle myself fiz tablets in the past and has worked for me of a success rate of 2 out of 3. But..... there has been signs of knifeback/skinny disease on 3 out of my recent 4 (5"-6") clowns that I feed flakes. One was lethargic for about 3 days while other 2 was eating even though skinny. Didn't medicate due to new surroundings and waited it out cuz they were indulging themselves on flakes. Today they're backs are filling out along with the bulge in their bellies.

That's awesome. I'm going to try and save them without breaking the bank. They are eating and 1 had a little belly bulge this morning after eating shrimp so I take that as a good sign. I'm going to do a water change tonight after I feed them and put another paraguard tablet in.

Any advice on what to feed? They're eating blood worms, shrimp and pellets. Are pellets best for nutrtion in this case?

Try to get them on nls therma a pellets 2mm size. Great food. Color great and best for health. Allot of people feed this food to loaches and it's great stuff. Mine love it and are super healthy.

Ok great thanks guys. The smaller one appears to be almost back to 100 percent but the bigger 1 is still skinny. He;s definitely bigger than he was but still a ways away.

You can also try a high quality flake with spirulina. Not sure on brand as I buy in bulk from a LFS. It works on my skinny loach rescue attempts. I place them in my cichlid tank for QT and it just works in about 2-3 weeks at a good ratio. Their knifebacks begin to fill out and it is the greatest feeling to naturally cure. Personally believe due to the easy digestion and that the flakes are everywhere which sits around longer than the pellets.

Of course, if physical appearance declines and appetite is of no progress after 2 to 3 weeks. I then resort to QT and the parasite guard tabs.

Well I put the smaller one in my other tank with the healthy loaches because he looked healthy now and he started beating up the bigger skinny 1. Cloudy eye and abrasions on body so I had to move him. Hopefully the big one is not too far gone now.
