Attempted to fix RTC's gill curl Wet Whisker's method...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do want to mention that I did not come up with this method myself, and don't want to take credit for someone else good ideas. This is suggested by an asian arowana specialist. I'd have to dig up his name. It's been a while. Anyways, I tried it, it worked, and I just passed on a good idea.

If he comes from a neglected home, he probably had gill curl starting if it wasn't already there. His gill was probably already primed and ready. Just moving tanks you could have gotten pH and temperature swings that could have made it curl up. Glad that the temp seems to be helping. Is the gill plate dented at all? I've seen gill curl that hasn't yet caused the gill plate to curl, but dent. I think you might have a chance if it hasn't and if its still all soft. I do hope it works. I'm not sure I'd go the surgery route. I'd talk to people about it, and see if its really necessary. It's just risky in that you have to do anesthesia which could kill him if you don't do it right and then you could get an infection. If it looks like you will have to do it, then I'd ask around to see who has done this before.

I got the Monster Fish Keepers emblems yesterday and wanted to show everyone how awesome they are. There was a tornado warning and it raining buckets and fish tanks yesterday, so I opted for almost no makeup and pigtails. Turns out, it takes off a decade and makes me look like a kid. God, now that just made me feel old....

Hi Jen. I don't see any dents on the gill plate and I don't think I will attempt surgery...Don't want to risk losing Spot. Anyhow I just got off work, had a long 9 hr day today...Good news though the gill curl seems to gone down alot from before. Spot is actually swimming happily around the whole tank. I've never seen Spot this active before. Spot usually only swims around only when he senses food. He even swam almost to the top of the tank back and forth:nilly:. I think the massaging helped alot. I will try again either tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully it goes away and I think it will! Thanks again.

Oh btw you don't look old at all. Remember it's your heart that always stays young;)

Oh, I'm kidding around about age. I'm 28 and happy about it. Life is nicer now than it has ever been. It just starts to sound old when you start throwing the word 'decade' around. hehe.

I haven't looked at my old thread. Did I mention that it may not lay down immediately or no? They didn't lay normal immediately afterwards, but seemed better, improving over the next couple days as it heals. That's part of the reason you want to wait a couple days between massage sessions (man that sounds deceptively relaxing but is anything but!). If you're seeing improvement that would be awesome!!!

Not to hi-jack the thread but where did you get the emblems, they are neat..

No. He's a 6 ft., clean shaven, glasses wearing, genius. Definitely not a scary biker man.
