Yeah, something like 25000 emigrated to Australia last year! I know a few people thinking of moving over to spend a few years working in the big mines to pay off their mortgage or save a big deposit for a house.

Cairns houses the great barrier reef. Which requires tropical temps. Even as far south as Bundaberg can house tropical temps without a heater year round. Im jealous of everyone up there with multi thousand gallon ponds that have all the goodies.

If NZ warm enough to house goldfish year round? (serious question)

Haha yeah, most of it anyway. I'm not sure about the colder parts of the south island, but we have goldfish in ponds outdoors here. Thats why koi are illegal, because they got into the waikato river and are making a mess of it.
There's a stream somewhere south of taupo (in the middle of the north island, temps get down to -10C over night in winter) thats thermally heated and has a population of wild sailfin mollies.

Opiate, tell me more about it, I've never really looked into it but it sounds like a good idea!

Tasmania ;)

With good insulation you could, problem would be tanks getting too hot during Summer I imagine, even up here in SEQLD my tanks are getting up to 31-32 in the peaks of summer.

Yeah but South East Queensland hasnt had correct weather for the past few years. This year, we didnt even have a summer. I bet this winter will be hovering around the 24's.
