hey guys i'm Luke from perth
started keeping cichlids about 3.5 years ago and i knew nothing!!
had 3 oscars , 1 barramundi and a hoplo catfish in a 2.5 footer!!
it very quickly turned into buying a 5 footer for them and getting africans for my 2.5' tank

then the addiction kicked in...

now i have 3 monoculus pbass, about 8 (i've lost count!) plecos+gibbys and 2 tandanus catfish in a 7 x 2 x 2.5

also have a male dovii in a 6 x 1.5 x 1.5

i'm getting a 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 for him tomorrow and getting 5 umbees to fill his spot

and by the way - I LOVE DOVII

nice set up.. cubanB.. if you want the tannin to go away use Bio Chem and just wash it and throw it in the canister.. and it would work the day after.

Might sound like a silly question, but what do you guys use for filter media in sumps... i notice that these nylon "scrubbies" are all the rage for the yanks, is there a similar australian product commonly available that you use...?

also, again, all these yank brands, what brand of silicone are you all using for glass tanks?

i got some silicone from bunnings that said it was for aquariums, the only problem is it takes 7 days to cure. :( dont remember what brand it was.

oh and for what was being discussed on the last page, i have alot of problems getting parts for my aqua one tank, and whan i find them they are really expensive, i just paid $50 for odd shaped compact fluro tubes! the pump for the filter is about to die, and the matching cabinets swell up if they get a drop of water on them. ive gone through 2 cabinets so far.:(

i bought 2 big(ish) australian bass the other day for my pond.:headbang2 their doing good so far.

Check around Spotlight/Warehouse/$2 Shops for the Nylon (round) scrubbies your after. I use Bioballs but they're only useful in wet/dry situations, so if your sump is more submerged, I'd go for either Seachem Matrix/EHFI/JBL MicroMec if cost isn't a factor, or Gutterguard from Bunnings (buy rolls of the stuff for a couple of bucks) is good.

where'd you buy your micron 1? Please tell me from bunnings, lol.

I want to hook two canister filters (I really can't remember what canister filters they are - prolly some epic crap aqua one thing) together, first one full of mechanical filter stuff, like the mircron 1, filter floss, felt etc. then the second one with bio.

yeah man i had thought about doin that. it's the branch that is doin it. to be honest i kinda like it a bit brownish. looks abit more natural for a SA river system. just not that brown!!!:naughty:

I like tannin aswell. it's not that bad. also tells you if you're doing enough water changes - water would be clear
