How long has the tank been setup? What filter are you using? I would assume most of your BB will be in your filters so I see no problem in taking all out at once. I would go with natural color gravel mixed with a little of the black you already have. One run with the gravel would be better, less stress on the fish compared to doing two runs at the gravel. And blue background.

Actually I think the 60 would be fine. His fish does looks like a short body to me, unless it's not...

Well in the mean time until you upgrade your tank, if your really want the color to pop I would replace the black background with a blue one. Not nearly as important but you could also replace the white with colorful gravel. Its a Short Body KML btw.

YEP! hes a short body kamfa malau... I am placing order for his new tank... next tuesday...until then he will be moved to a 50cmx36 ... because the 20 gallon hes in ...nitrates are over 100+ ... (its all on my other thread in general discussion).

Jay, you previously mentioned wanting to breed him. Please get advice here in the FH forum about tank size needed for that, and handling them, before you order the new tank. That is a whole different challenge than keeping him singly!

Woot i love watchih him feed...throwing in about 5 pellets...3 times a day...not to overfeed...

And chris...your very right. However... I wont keep the female in his tank...after breeding. She will be in a friends 55 gallon...keeping male and female stresses the male...especially if they keep seeing each.other with divider ...its not good. I will keep female only when breeding ...
