I fished the Jardine River back in 1987 and caught alot of aro's. The cook at the camp cooked a couple up for diner and they tasted real good.

For real???

They are bony as hell.

There are two kinds of Australian Aros. Jardini and Leichardti. They both get to a maximum of 3 feet but most probably won't reach that size. The Jardini is supposed to be the most aggressive of arowanas. Jardini is by far the more common variety of Australian aro. Make sure the aro has a rounded tail and not a tapered tail. Much less valuable Silver and Black arowana have tapered tails.

I think they get a bit bigger in the wild. One caught in Cania Dam in Queensland recently was measured at 112 cm.

My LFS has some jardini but i think they are a bit cheaper than 80 bucks. Ima have to go check. I am thinking of getting a silver aro as they are more tolerant of tank mates and i dont have the space to dedicate a tank that size to just 1 fish.
