Make sure you cover up any holes they could jump out of.
They also like finding their ways into overflows.
I have a fair amount of cover in my tank but they stay out in front a majority of the time. And yea eat just about anything.
Will also handle colder waters.
 
They eat almost anything you put in the tank. You can hand feed them. But when they get a bit bigger and if you are putting in algae discs, make sure you break it up. THey will swallow it whole and that doesnt always end well with those guys.

They are native australian. Temeparate fish. So you can keep them in cooler water if you need to. I have some which school together and another that will hang out with the berneys catfish most of the day.

My old one loved to sit in plants and rest there. Otherwise they do like to hide out in rocks and driftwood at times. They can also be moody fish and go darker at times. I think pretty cool. Mine has learnt the feeding pattern and knows what part of the tank to go to at what time. ALways first to get the food.
