Mine is about to be in a fifty five gallon now. She is eight inches but will probably not get more than 12 since it is a female. but they can get 20 but usually not more than 15
IME if it gets over a foot you will be lucky. 14-16" knives are big bgk's

The small tank = stunting myth is just that. A myth. As long as the fish is fed well and water quality is kept up the fish will keep growing. They myth arises because as the fish gets larger it becomes harder to maintain good water quality in a small tank.
The largest BGK I have seen was only 10 inches. I have seen a 14" clown knife ( think it was a CK, the tank was dark) but never a BGK. Just my experience, but I know they do get that big. I'm betting yours gets 12- 14. If it does get up to the 20's we need pics!

The males have a longer nose and look more like a horse. Females have rounder shorter nose and have thicker bodies.
