that thing is pretty big... the inch per gallon works for fish up to 4 inches and excludes cichlids

The ones I ate were not good, I would rather lick the slime of a living bowfin. From what I hear, lots gets shipped to Russia and repacked as sturgeon caviar. There is a commerical fishery for large female bowfin here.

You must have had some bad prepared eggs.. the Amia caviar I have had was excellent stuff and equal to at least the lower cost iranian sturgeon item. Better than whitefish and lumpfish but not buluga for sure.

That could be, they were direct from a processer and I don't think he gave us grade A eggs. Or it could be that I have just seen too many on the dissection table. I eat and love lepomis, mullet, and spotted sea trout roe.

most bowfin farms raise fish to be released to control native and invasive carp populations as they feed heavily on their eggs and yes gator gar do get that big with no hormones thats rediculous it was probably siezed for being taken in an illegal way
