most bowfin are only stocked in the midwest states and perhaps states on the rockies. The west coast states I believe has actually banned hte poseision of bowfin.

Bowfin are really hard to come by. They live in the western part of my state (I live on the east side so I can't get them)

Cheapest price you will find ofr a bowfin is like $20 and shipping costs about the same. so its $40-50 for a native... something I'm not willing to pay unless its a sturgeon.

I've never heard of a bowfin stocking program. Bowfin eat carp eggs?

I have never seen any fish eggs in any of the bowfin I have cut up, but I have used shad roe for bait. From what I have seen they eat fish, crawfish, shrimp, and snakes. I have never seen any programs that use them as biological control for carp or other invasives, thats why I was curious.

I doubt bawfin are stocked in any serious level and I don't buy for a minute that Bowfin eat eggs. I'm not sure that's what he was saying though (the eggs).

I we could only engineer bowfin to get 80+ pounds I guess they might control carp....and small children caught swimming:grinno:

I would keep my hands out of the water if there were 80 pounders in there. I've been bit once by a bowfin and it was not fun.
