Axolotl. Need some advice.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sinking pellets are ideal. I feed New Life Spectrum Thera+A. Mine get the 3mm (along with the goldfish in that tank).

At least the rocks aren't small enough for them to swallow, but I would still get them on sand. Again, rocks (rocks or gravel) will trap lot sof debris that will lower water quality and make more work for you. Sand is a much better option.

Any pics of your tank?

Will consider getting some sand. Still need to take pics of the setup.

Will consider investing on some sinking pellets. (Probably Sinking Carnivore) As of this time, I'll try offering the food sticks through forceps to see if he'll even eat the pellets offered.

Source for the Axolotl is Taiwan. Considering the temps as of this time, I keep it inside an Air-conditioned room with the temps set at lowest. Seems to be showing no signs of illness as of yet.

I'll hopefully have pics up soon. Just need to get the camera.

Sounds good. I do think the NLS would be a better option than Hikari.

Do you have an air stone in the tank?

I am not sure if it is available in the Phillipines. I get mine from wholesalers since I have a business license. I don't know how you would find it over there. If I couldn't find it in a store here I would look on eBay, Amazon.com, search Googgle Shopping, etc.

If you can't get it most breeders feed trout pellets, those may be easier to find. I think those would be a better option than Hikari.

I would have an air pump. Even with filters that do a good job at aeration, aeration is important to axolotls. It can make or break them if the temp ever gets to their high end. The last thing you want is for the pump on the filter to stop working for some reason and come home to him gasping for life.

X2

or salmon pellets.

Thanks for the extra insight. Though I do want to know why you think Hikari wouldn't be ideal. And finding trout pellets here is probably next to impossible since their aren't any trout.

Anyway, I managed to try offering him some Food Sticks via forceps. Took them, so I'm glad.

Hikari is a good food, I used it extensively before trying NLS. But NLS is just at a whole nother level from Hikari. It is a much better option nutritionally for them. The results that can be achieved with NLS are just above and beyond what Hikari can do.

They are raised on Trout and/or Salmon pellets. NLS is at least as good. See what you can find and then we can go from there.

Reptileguy I swear you're a spokesmen for NLS. If you do a search on MFK and AC for New Life Spectrum 2/3 of the results are from you, lol.

From the looks of it, all I'm hearing is you just trying to spokes me into getting NLS.

Lets face it, opinions are good, but logic isn't going to get me to get something such as fish food off of the internet when I know that I have a similarly good alternative at my closest pet store.

Thanks anyway for the helpful insight, though.
