I believe they have been bred in Germany so I would assume they were in big tubs that would be close to being in aquarium. Unlike the ones that are farmed in SA where they are probably in outside ponds.

Someone bred them in an aquarium indoors a couple years ago. Don't remember where they were, just remember the article in TFH or some similar publication. Peacock bass are farmed outdoors in lots of places. SA is hardly the hub of production to. Asia produces thousands as well as florida these days. Cichla are unfortunately quite popular these days (esp in asia) and as with most cichlid production (ex. rift lake cichlids) I think it will end up being uber-hobbyists and high-end German & U.S. breeeders to keep the fish geneticly pure-ish and in high quality.

Zullies were indeed bred in Germany, and I heard of a reent account in Japan. I really don't think it should be too difficult. Cichla are not difficult breeders. YOu need good sized adults, the space and keep them fat. Don't overcrowd.

I have no doubt we will soon see Michael posting pics of swarms of baby Zullies.
