Well to be honest I never my son unattended no matter what. If I can't sit with him then ill give to someone to watch for that moment. He doesnt like sitting alone so i have to carry him. Even if I could leave him sitting the dog will follow me. I hate when people give pits a bad reputation like any dog can attack a person. That's something I just don't see in her. The dog I mentioned in the old post was complete opposite I knew I couldn't leave him alone with anyone cause he as one of those bad pits. Her she too friendly and protective. I toke her for walk with my son and she wouldn't move from his side.

I would never leave the child unattended, anyway - that's like leaving a baby with a "dog tame" Burmese Python, and we all know what happens in the papers when that happens.

Even if you train the dog explicitly, you can never really know what lies under the surface based on the dog's history.

Just remember, all it takes is ONE bite, and yes, you will be entirely at fault, which can lead to criminal charges. I am just playing the voice of reason.

This goes for ANY dog - Quite simply, don't leave them alone, ever.

my dog was a rescue from a puppy mill and was horrified of my little sister. it took time and effort and a hell of alot of patience but he is now the nicest dog ever. you just need to be really cautious around with him around your baby

Depends on the individual dog, but i wouldnt let it anywhere withing touching distance of your son. Let him get used to you first and see how he acts, and what his personality is.

I adopted a two year old english bulldog that was a breeder in a puppy mill and was severly abused, and although there was an amazing improvement in her personality in the five years I owned her, even at the end she would still show unnecessary signs of fear and would get overly defensive of random things(toys, beds, certain spots on the carpet she liked to lay in). Just like with people, when a dog is severly abused at such a young age the mental and emotional scars will never fully heal.

She is extremely well trained every command said she does without hesitation. She spent all day with her testing her. She passed by far. She doesn't nip or jump on people. Even when you play with her she doesn't witch for me is a good. I agree with fishie it depends on the individual dog.

That exactly is what I'm afraid of. She hasn't showed any signs of that yet. She doesn't snap at when I go near her food or take her bone. Yesterday one of k9 teeth came out and when I toke her bone to check her teeth she just stood there.

Well I'm being forced to get rid of her. Its sad how people just place an impression on something not knowing the truth. I'm truely hurt to see her go like this.

sorry you were forced to get rid of her, but it may be for the best. an abused dog could snap, or it could be fine you never know. the point is, why would you take that risk with the most important person in your life, someone who is totally dependent on you, your son. get a puppy, raise it right. dogs are great for kids ...
