Yep also keep your children away from playgrounds, sports, and school. Hell i rather have my dogs watch my kids rather then some of these people.

I 1+ that. People label pits as terrors but what about other dogs like german sheperds for example police train these dogs to attack running suspects but no one thinks that's bad.

I recently toke in a 4onth old blue nose pit bull. She is very well trained but her previous owner abused her. She is skittish doing somethings and gets scared ...........

is the whole dog blue (steel/grey/silver)? Blue pits are the most likely to have genetic-based unstable temperaments.
aside from than that, with kids, any dog- but especially those of Lg size & strength should already be gentle & non-reactive.
any vet will tell you, fear biters are more common than predictably vicious animals.
I would not keep a potentially Lg dog in need of mental/emotional rehab around any child.
The dog needs predictable people. Children are NOT.

Is it 100% guaranteed to bite? No.
Is it far more likely to do an unpredictably reactive, unsafe act, than a properly treated animal? YES.
Give him to a pit rehab & they will do rehab.

a dog's developmental socialization is soft-wired in by 12 weeks of age. after that, it's WORK to change.

Hello; Even if you are prone to dismiss the information, it may well be worth a look at the website I posted earlier. If they have their facts right there is a disturbing trend in the number of attacks by pit bulls over other dog breeds. The group young childred pictured that have been victims was enough to give me pause. I looked over a few of the articles and would not want a child around a number of dogs, but for sure not around a pit bull. It does not seem possible to be able to keep a close enough watch on a child and a dog at all times.
I cannot picture how having any dog is worth the chance, no matter how random or remote, of an attack on a child.
It may be that the dog being gone is the best thing.

Sir you truely get no respect from me. I understand your point but you can't just label them just because of what ignorant people do with their pets. Not every pit bull is prone to attack a person. It really comes down to how they are raised and what the owner teaches em is right. Like my pit when I first got her and started playing with she got hyper and nipped my finger I immediately grabbed her by the scruff of her neck flicked her the nose and told her no and she stopped and never did it again.

I'm not saying they bad dogs to keep. To be honest I've always wanted one but my point any dog can snap at any point its not just pits.

My best friend has a pit and a small child (less than 6 months) and the dog couldn't be more caring... Our daughter was around his previous pit many times, even sleeping in her bed!

I don't think it's the breed, it's the owners and past history/treatment.

I had a german shepherd that was great around our daughter. I trusted him 100%... RIP buddy

My son is the same age the dog. I could tell within a 10 minutes time span she was already protective of him. I was sitting with him and the dog and my brother in law came to my door she didn't move but once he got within arms reach of my son she was ready to pounce.

I do agree totally that's its dogs training owner and history

this thread was posted "as if" representing questions regarding specific details on a particular dog with a history of mistreatment, and the issue of a baby.
However, the underlying actual point is unfolding to be that certain breeds are assessed with negative bias.

If the dog is posessive over its toys or food, you'll have to worry. Set all stereotypes aside, pits are just big and strong dogs that are capable of inflicting harm, it doesn't mean they are vicious. The most agressive dogs I have ever felt with have been little ankle buyers, but they are to small to really hurt anybody badly.

When my son was 2 and my daughter was 3 mo old we adopted a 2 1/2 yr old pit for the humane society which had been bred twice abused and abandoned by her previous owner. The dog took to them like a guardian and has been that way ever since. U could not ask for a better dog. We've had her for over 3 yrs now and she has shown no aggression toward anyone. She is a part of my family. Pits are not bred to be vicious dogs it is there owners who make them that way. I have had pits ever since I was little and not one of them showed any aggression towards people or other dogs for that matter.

contrary to what most people realize, a dog which acts quickly to initiate physical protection of family (particularly with no actual violence being committed) does not view itself as serving it's master. it has already assumed the alpha position in family unit.
Healthy minded dogs know the difference between real threats and just plain proximity to family/property.
