Actualy there are quite a few private people that are willing to go way out of their normal lifes in order to keep "big mean" reptiles such as gators in very good conditions in wich these animals trive, and sometimes even do way better then zoos. I know for instances that there is a bunch of people for example in Spain, England, France, etc with American gators and they are so experienced that have a hell lot of fun and go to increadble lengths to provide for their pets like building a back door tropical green house with pond in it. In this level of dedication I dont see any prob in people keeping this animals, its the impulse and inresposable pet owners that are the culprids of mistreating animals like this but at least in Europe fortunatly crocs and gators are normaly way out of reach of such persons.

I dont however if everybody that has a gator should try to do the same, many safety implications envolved, if Im destined to have one of such critters I think Ill let him do its own thing wille I wach behind the safety of a fence
