Baby Arowana Tomorrow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stared my baby blacks off right away with freeze dried bloodworms. They are soft and float for long enough that they are easily removed if not eaten. Also fed a good quality flake food. At about the 3-3.5" mark I started adding crushed pellets along with the FDBWs and flakes, gradually increasing the size and quanity of the crushed pellet pieces as they got larger. At 6" they were eating full pellets. You can feed pinhead crickets, but they are addictive and the aro may turn away from other foods. So feed crickets sparingly.

Having the availabilty of constant live food source in the tank(baby feeders) may hamper your atempts to get onto processed foods.

I would lower your water level a few inches and provide floating plants for cover. Always feed in the same spot of the tank, let the aro come to the food. Don't try to chase the aro with the food and place it near the aro. It'll quickly learn where and who the food comes from. I found that with my baby aros that were in about 40g of water that only about 10g of W/C was needed weekly. Test and track your water params to see what is needed.

If you look up my old thread titled "Finally" you can see what I did raising a Baby black upto 9" which I then lost it to a jump.:( Lots of pics and videos in that thread. Also have other threads which I raised a group of 4 baby black you can look up.

Good luck.

Thank you so much everyone! I will use all of your advice and try to get it on prepared foods right away. How long can the baby aro go without eating if it does shy from food at first?

Ok he's in the tank right now but I'm gonna let him be for now so he can relax and I'll take pictures tomorrow. He's actually about 3 inches and the guy who owns the fish store said it was already eating flakes and freeze dried foods so it will hopefully take food pretty quickly

dont be afraid if he doesnt eat for mre than 1 week my new aro didnt eat for 10 days

I have an RTG high back and feed him meal/mario worms. You can get small worms put them in one at a time you want him to eat them from the surface if he starts picking food from the bottom of the tank he may develop drop eye.

Well I dropped in some fdbw and flakes today and he started eating already! I was shocked that he's already eating. I'm not sure if he ate a bloodworm or flake, but either way I'm happy
