baby banded water snake questions

2-3 times a week is best. Fish are not as nutritious as rodents, so he'll need to eat more than a similarly-sized mouse-eating snake would.

They're good eaters, once he's acclimated and eating fish try to get him on fresh-killed fish rather than live ones in the water...once he's taking dead ones it'll be easy to scent a mouse with fish and switch him over. They do fine on mice, easier to get plus you cut down on smell with a mouse eater vs. a fish eater.

My brother would catch them a lot but only kept two of them in a 75. He had it set up as mainly water but with like 1/3 of it was land that slopped into the water along with some huge driftwood that stuck out of the water. He would go out and catch minnows, frogs, tadpole, etc and keep them stocked all the time. He tried to make it seem like the real deal from where he caught them. He ended up moving them to a huge stock tank.

That's the received wisdom, and that's how I keep them (just like a kingsnake or cornsnake setup, but with a bigger water dish). However, I know folks who have kept them in more of a paludarium-type setup or even in an aquatic setup with basking logs as the only dry area; they don't seem to have any more problems with infection than I have had.

The crucial points are to keep the water clean and provide some totally dry areas.
