just a pic i googled for you...that is you little channel cat in a few years...your putting it into a local pond is the dumbest idea i have heard in a long time...DO NOT get this fish as you can't care for it...

I dont have time to read all this but channel cats will get way over 18 inchs even under bad conditons, mine is 1.5 years old and almost 20 inchs they get big and grow fast. You will need a monster tank to house one of these bad boys say at least a 300+ gallon tank or pond.

i dont ignore it. i read all of the responses that i get. also my fish that i have now are in a 30 gallon and they have grown fast until now. they have slowed down considerably compared to the rate that they were previously growing. and i can only have a 30 gallon tank since i am going to college next year and my parents wont let me keep a larger tank than the 30 in this house.
i am setting my 17 gallon tub up with a 5 gallon filter, an aerator, and a 10 gallon filter. the 17 gallon will hold 5 goldfish that i will grow to about 5 inches then put into a neighborhood pond. the 17 gallon will also include any minnows, shiners, bullhead or other baby fish that we catch from our minnow traps in a local creak. the 17 gallon is a very temporary tank, it will only be up for about a month maybe 2-3 months, depending on how the fish are doing in it and if the filters can keep up. i have a ten gallon tank that i would temporarily use for the baby channel catfish. i would feed him the minnows and shiners that i keep in the 17 gallon tank.
NO NO NO NO NO! goldfish are not a native species and harmful to the native environment never release a nonnative speices into a pond.

i know how big they get. i catch them all the time in the summer but those are usually the 'small' ones of about 10 inches. i have a pond that i can put it in when it gets up to 8 inches or so. but if i put it in there before that point then there is a good chance that it will be eaten by a random monster fish that gets put in there.

i know that goldfish are non-native but we are trying to get big another goldfish to survive in there since the last one died. 15 years old about 10 inches and 2 lb. the last time we tried to put in some goldfish into that pond they never lasted long. the first time the local kids caught them and took them away. the second time we released them and they made it for about a few minutes bc they swam into deeper water and got eaten by the LMB that were waiting.

i just went to petsmart to get the 4 that we put in b4. that is where im going to go get the 5 that i will grow. be careful which one you get though bc the last one that i got that i kept in my tank i got ich from and killed all of my fish. i dont think you want that to happen to your tank especially with the fish you have.

i think he means the catfish....but really you shouldn't be getting these fish to put in the pond...if the cops see you you WILL be fined...

your story about the kids taking you goldfish is funny...i go to a neighborhood pond were some old people put gold fish in and they are running wild...i catch them by the hundreds, i sell them to the lfs during pond season and feed them to my fish...one time the old people got pissed cause we were stealing all there fish so they called the cops on us...we had a laugh with the cops that came and continue to piss the old people off every year...

nice story about the cops. but at this pond the people of the neighborhood know how much kids catch out of there and they dont care for the most part. they know that there are plenty of fish in there, we make sure that we stock plenty early so that they can breed. i dont think they really notice much. the only time the cops were called to this pond was bc i indirectly called them bc kids were shooting bottle rockets into it. aka i called my friends dad and he called his cop friends and they came over in their cruiser and i helped catch the kids.

sometimes when i used to get drunk at my friends house we would light bottle rockets and mortor rounds and drop them off a low bridge into the creek 10' below us...they shoot and explode under water it is cool...the cops came several times there aswell...we gave them the slip avoided a minor and fines several time...
