the other day i went fishing for the first time in the year and on my first cast i caught an 8" lmb. My buddy was with me and we saw schools and schools of baby bluegill. I got some and im keeping them in my 10g. however, we dropped one of them on a rock when transporting it so it died. now i only have one. oh well, when it warms up again i can get plenty more. This pond is so cool-last year my friends saw a school of baby lmbs and caught six. they kept three, one died while transporting it, and when he put the other two in his tank, one bullied the other to the point that it wouldnt eat, so it became the dominant one and persevered. the other one died. his lmb is such a pretty fish- about 5 " to 6"

absolutely positive. ill post pictures ASAP just to show you. this pond that me and my friends go to is full of bluegill. on warm days, the baby bluegill go into this little cove, and that is where me and my friend caught them. they are really pretty fish. this weekend im going to get some more. during the summer the lmbs start to spawn, so i will get another tank and keep them in it. ill probably only get like 2 or 3 and keep them in a pond when they get bigger. im starting a native tank this week. ill take the bluegill i caught the other day in there along with a few others. there's a huge variety of bluegill in this place. some have more purple than others and some are darker than others, but they are all really cool fish.

another cool thing about his place is that there are four HUGE carp and one big grass carp. the rest of the fish are lmbs and bluegill. during the summer, a gigantic snapping turtle lives there.

sounds like most ponds, bluegill will spawn multiple times a year weather permitting. but what you explaining sounds like the fish in the pond are stunted, do to the lack of predators in it. are all of the bass 5 to 6 inches??? or the larger bass are only 10-12 inches?? im just interested im goin to school for fish management. looking forward to seeing your pics

well one of my other friends has the record- 18" lmb at the pond. most bass there as of now are 5". i was lucky to catch the 8". During this time of year, only the small lmbs come out to shallower water. the big ones come out in july, but when they spawn, their fry go to shallow water and that is how we catch them.
one of my friends who is actually a fish expert is amazing at identifying fish, told me that they were bluegill. he actually is a member here, his login name is ceeej31. other than that, it is really easy to identify bluegill

i was the friend that he went with:)
ive been fishing at the pond for about three years now, and know quite a bit about it.
first off there are predetors in the pond in the form of large snapping turtles and the occasional blue heron.
also the bass do get quite large in the pond and we have caught some that were about 2'
this was le patrons first time to the pond
the cove with the young bluegill is actually full of adults in the summer

hey this summer or maybe this weekend ill post some pics of the pond, and hopefully i can take pics of some of the fish. It was stocked over 25 years ago and all the fish keep breeding every year. nobody really maintains it, but its really fun to fish

atleast we think it was stocked... it is for the most part landlocked
the pond was man made but we dont know how long ago
this is the pond where i caught Wally my lmb:)
so far i have been trying to identify all the aquatic species that i have seen in the pond they are as follows:
lmb
blue gill
asian carp
grass carp
crayfish
bull head
canada goose
mallard duck
blue heron
purple heron
painted turtle
common snapping turtle
bull frog
and last year someone relased a large pair of red eared sliders.
