baby bluegill

I find baby bluegills all the time. I found that they would only eat daphnia... they wouldn't even touch live brine.

They start dropping off one by one. They are very ahrd to keep alive. Most young natives are hard to keep alive. I caught some larval spottail shiners once. They all died after a while.

mine is doing fine. its been three days since i got him. yesterday he experimented with tetra flakes-he would get them in his mouth and then spit them out in chunks. this morning he actually ate several flakes. he's doing great so far.

were they the only fish in the tank?
if they are with other fish that already eat flakes, pellets, etc. they will see the other fish eating it and they will give it a try:)

the larval spottail shiners ate HBH fry bites no problem.

The bluegills ate daphnia and tried the brine shrimp, but they still liked the daphnia more. Frozen daphnia isn't too expensive. I can feed them frozen daphnia until they get big enough for worms if needed.

They just kept dying and dying though.

that's too bad, mine is actually getting friendly with the other fish. about the pics guys, sorry my camera isnt working right. if i can find a way to convert the pics from the memory card then i can post them. ill try again today

baby bluegills school with each other and sometimes other fish for protection. When they get older, they will be the predatorsand attack each other

a couple years back there was an oddball bluegill, his entire body was a bright orange:eek:, we tried many times to catch him but he got away.
also we once had a 3" blue gill snap the line:screwy:
