Just got mine in from TFDfish Saturday morning (~3-4"). I purchased 4 of em and put them in a 55gal. I then bought rosy, and bloodworms but it had a hard time getting the rosy and were not interested in bloodworms or blackworms?? So I Drained the water level to about 5-6" off the bottom and adding air stones and a small sponge filter. It did the trick!!! They are eating the rosy's easy and I'm adding chopped shrimp and its doing some good but the rosy and gupys will do a lot better!!! Good luck bud and let me know..I love these guys!!! By the way, starvation is a common death to these native species when they are young...

try live blood worms..they ate the first day i got them..make sure you take out the bloodworms they didnt' eat..then try again'..oh! turn your lights of too..i guess they dont' like the light much..

had 2 4''ers for about 4 weeks now, they eat anything! Just keep trying different foods. mine take shrimp, tilapia, scallops, misis, rosies, and even 2 kinds of pellets. Dont know what all the hype is about them being hard to take care of.

Wednesday13,
Be careful, you are not out of the weeds yet. I wish you the best.
I had some awhile back and I thought everything was fine. They were very active, eating great, etc.. Then about a month into it, they started dropping off like flies. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you need to keep your water clean they are very senitive to ammonia and other waste my shore you ciphen gravel at least once a week if i where you i have 4 love them fun fish good luck got mines from snook

afaik all these fish are wild caught. Bowfin are notorious for internal parasites so yes your fish will look and behave normal until its to late . your best chance at keeping these guys healthy is to treat them now for internal parasites before they shows any signs. as far as feeding goes do what others have suggested and try a variety of foods until you find what they like. mine eats everything i put in with him.
