Baby Bowfin

I just got 6 baby bowfins yesterday. I put two of them in a 70G aquarium and the other four into the porch pond that I built. The outside porch pond bowfin went ape nuts hitting the bugs that settled on the surface of the water within seconds.
I have underwater LED light strings that seem to be luring bugs to there death by the hundreds. I was "skimming" them off the surface every morning, since the Gar did not seem to show any interest in them. Not a single critter floating in the pond this morning!
I have had even worse luck with getting my Bowfin to eat the first day. Not only did the outdoor bowfin ravage all form of insect, I even had one devoure one of its planned tankmates. I put eight of the largest weather loaches out of the ten in this order into the porch pond, and one of them became lunch to an extremely agressive bowfin and another to a 14" Longnose Gar.
