If you don't have info pertinent to the thread, please do not post. Gar man, these member are trying to help you, and you are shrugging off their info. You need to listen to them, or they will stop helping all together.

You might be able to catch one by hand if you find the right place. The lake i normally haunt has sand bottom by shore and the young bullheads seem to love to hide under the rocks and such in the shallows. Just wading around turning over rocks might get you one. If you can wait till spring, you could try that...

but theyre is no way spotted bullheads are near you

yes they r stocked by me a family friend has a small pond that he has stocked with these and a few species of sunfish

Its mostly likely one of these common species (yellow, black and brown bullhead) or even possibly black/brown hybrids. I don't think there are spotted bullheads in Iowa, not even with the stocking. If so they can't survived in Iowa winters.

One thing Gar Man might want to consider while doing all of this is the Iowa state law regarding catching and keeping live fish from the wild.

There are legal hoops to jump through in order to do it within the law.
I only say thins after seeing suggestions of hand catching, netting and trapping... which are prohibited in most cases in that state.

Right from the DNR's regualtions

You cannot use to take or attempt to take any fish by:

grabhook
snaghook
net
seine
trap
firearm
dynamite
explosives
poisonous substances
stupefying substances
lime
ashes
electricity

You cannot take or kill, or attempt to take or kill any other fish by hand fishing.

One even needs a state permit to stock there own pond since there are requirements that need to be met to insure stocked fish aren't getting mixed into established wild populations.

OY! I forget about the laws of Iowa! Did you heard about VHS? I heard Iowa are getting test on fishes for VHS. Minneosta have to test the fishes too but so far there are no VHS in Minnesota.
