These guys are too small yet to tell for sure, but I was very surprised to see them. They are about 1/2" - 3/4" and I got three for $15... the only three they had. My cousin works at the LFS and said one of their wholesalers brought them in a couple days ago. I guess he goes all over to catch wild fish... I hope these are not Mayan. I will keep you all updated. I did not have room right now, so I put them in my 56g community with some tiger barbs and cory cats, hehe.

Did you buy them as red terrors, because that name goes for both uro and festae. Those look to be uro's

Yeah they looked a bit off. I'm going to say mayan as well.

There aint nothing wrong with Mayans, i have personally caught wild oens down here and they look amazing!

Why do people prefer the festae over them? IS it because of better coloration on females?

They might be mayan ! Here is a pic of my smallest Festae...is almsost the same size of those you got (maybe a little bit bigger) but close to their size. The eye spot is much smaller and off sided.

At that size you can´t really tell from the eye spot. It is always in the middle but when they grow bigger 1.5-2" it should be off sided.

I can't speak for everyone, but I prefer Festae over Mayans for their overall body shape, behavior, and coloration. I have kept bot Mayans and Festae. Festae just appeal to me more. That goes for both males and females of the species. A male Festae in his prime can be very beautiful with a sheen of gold and green. Females are gorgeous all the time, but are extremely striking in breeding dress. A mature bonded pair is just an awesome sight to behold. When someone sees Festae and sets their mind and budget to buy some, more than likely they will be disappointed to receive Mayans instead. That generally goes for any fish that a person wants. They expect to get what they pay for. Mayans are beautiful too. But just like there are people that prefer Mayans, there are also people that prefer Festae for whatever reasons they may have. And I agree with the others, the OP has Mayans for sure.
