Just got this guy yesterday. It's about 1.5". Can you guys tell me what species it is? I can take more pics later but I'm not sure what angles are required to ID these guys. It was in a mixed batch of different species supposedly. View attachment 1066157

I personally can't really tell u much, I can't ID wolves from this complex for crap (lacerdae, intermedius, Australis etc.) when they're this small. My guess is that it's a mala but idk tbh. Undershot pic or wait till its bigger then find out for sure

Don't intermedius sand brassiliensis (spelling might be off) come from the same river, maybe that's the fourth?

Or maybe the australis, idk I'm still learning about these new species isn't much on them that I can find. I only know about mala curupiras aimara and a little bit on lacerdae as that's what I've read about. The others I can't seem to find much. By the look of the jaw it could be I believe what Liam has is an australis, but then the pattern on that fish is quite different too. Though maybe from a different river?

Hmmm interesting that you would make such a bold statement like this... This shipment was from Peru... They have all those 3 types of wolves... Ray didn't mix them they came in labeled as malas and are being sold at mala price but some experts like wesley Wong and ken said a couple of them look different... Just a FYI

Ken as in Fish Farm Ken? I'm NO wolf expert. But I can tell you that his "lacerdae" look further from any Lacerdae I've ever seen.....

I forgot what countries he said but it was in an area where all of them were found. He just received them as hoplias sp. but, as stated before, was told by others that it looked like a mixed batch of different species. He got them all for the same price so he's selling them all for the same price.

Btw. I personally netted this guy out myself cuz I thought it looked the nicest. They definitely all looked different from eachother though. They didn't look like the same species.

Yup ken. I'm def no wolf expert but I've been reading up on them a little. This is interesting then although it may or may not have to do with collection point. These are Uruguayan lacerdae unlike the lacerdae wes recently imported over the last couple years are from Argentina. Ken gets the lacerdae IDed from Felipe THE real expert. There was a huge debate years ago over ID of a wolf whether it was a lacerdae or Australis. Felipe was right on the money the whole time, this was before a lot of information on wolves was out. He knows fish native to his country pretty well. But idk maybe they might've messed up Ya know who knows though. Lots of fish found in Uruguay and Argentina are morphologically different

The larger Green Lacerdae I've seen posted (believe it's 14") that came from Ken looks just like Australis to me. Wayyyy too round of head to be Lacerdae.

Should have another larger one from Ken showing up in a few days, will post pics, may end up in the same tank as the Australis just to compare.

Yea I've seen that and wondered but with all the different variants and stuff I didn't say anything since it's not my place to say and I'm no expert either. And make a thread about it when you get it DB, should also update your wolf thread.

I will definitely update when it shows up. That will make 13 wolves here..... And all but 2 were a pleasure to obtain. The story behind the 2 is pretty friggin comical though....... Stay tuned.
