Baby mekong catfish? can anyone id please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's definitely a Pangasiidae, looks like a I.D. and I've had plenty of them and it looks like one to me. Everyone else is gonna probably tell you the same, sorry.
The line on it makes it look like an ID shark because the line is lacking in almost all the other Pangasiidae including the Mekong cat which is Pangasiandon Gigas.

ID shark for sure. And Mekong are endangered so getting one is near impossible. And why would you want a 7' 600lbs fish any way? You can't keep it. I mean paroons and ID's are big enough.

it is 100% an id shark just accept it. dont stress the fish out taking it out for more pics just to be told the same thing again. why would you want a true mekong its gonna get past 7ft, seems pretty pointless.

... the pic is from the advert from the guy i bought it off. I have a professional slr camera- i will get some accurate pics tomorrow

Today is "tomorrow", so I suggest to give the OP a chance to provide the pics of the actual fish.

The Mekong have a heavier body and you will see it grow. They get huge fast. I've seen some at a LFS and they doubled in size in less than a month. I didn't want them because of the obvious reason. Someone did snag them all eventually. That was a few years ago. That one in the picture is a common iridescent shark. They do vary in color shade but not too much with the body form. I think that is the same one they grow up for food in Asia. It is actually very cheap at the Asian market and works very well for feeding monster fishes. I personally won't eat it. I heard they use things other than manufactured fish food to raise them.
