Baby Oscar Hardships

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
add salt and bump the temp
as for the sitting at the gravel is pretty normal in oscars when they are stressed or not happy about something
and nice job dude

Update: The little guys seems to be turning the corner, He splits his time cruising the bottom of the tank and hovering behing the HOB overflow. The temp is set at 82 and I am continuing his ich treatment. The only worry I have is the fact that I still haven't witnessed him eating yet. Here is a picture of him chillaxin a cave. I think it turned out pretty good, but he looks like he is green because the flash was on.

looks good! oscars are great fish, and them being common makes them no less attractive to me. He looks just a smidge stunted, but I think that will be fixed. He will be a great looking tiger O!!!

I hope I can get him eating, I never took stunting into consideration. I figured his eyes just looked large due to him being a juvenile. Does anyone else think he had become stunted or is he just young?

bichir juvenile eyes are large, but his are too large. Looks stunted to me

I'm glad I happened on this thread. I went to 4 different LFS's yesterday looking for the perfect tiger. I was shocked that abino's were everywhere as well as reds but, no tigers. I finally happened on one store where they had three but wanted $12 ea. After about 1/2 hour of looking I picked the best one. Looks like yours, same size and, after swimming like an olympian at the store, has just sat on the bottom of my 30g. No tankmates yet. Heat is at 80 and I will add a little salt when I get home. I fed him some bloodworms and he ate them but, went back to his stressed position. Good advice guys!

Nah I don't think he's stunted. I got my tiger about half a year ago at 2 inches, which I believe is even smaller than this guy. He was so small his head was bigger than his body and this included big eyes. He will grow out of it and will become a monster, so don't worry. If you're curious about the proportions of my oscar I have a link to a pic in my sig. Great job you're doing here, i take my hat off to you for saving this guy. Good luck with him and keep us updated!

This guy is less than 2 inches long, my guess is right around 1 3/4 inch:

No good news to report. Still being very sluggish and not swimming to terribly much. Its like the little guy has no energy/strength. And worse yet I still haven't seen him eat anything first fish i have ever seen pass on blood worms. And the micro pellets don't do the trick for him either. One pellet drifted over and bounced off his head, literally, and he did nothing. I am started to get worried.

I am glad that this thread has done some good tho :headbang2

I'll keep you all posted
