Baby Oscar only eats pellets

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Only thing I can think of is cutting worm before feeding , and freeze part you don't use. Or just take the rest back to lfs and offer them the worms, I am quite sure they will find something that will consume the super worms.:)

Seriously, my Oscar is not going to be big enough to consume those worms in a week or two?

I guess I can just dump those worms in the yard to feed the squirrels, pigeons.

I guess I was too anxious to feed live food to my Oscar.

Try pinhead sized crickets, Oscar should have no problem eating them if it likes them. Just buy five for starters.

What is pinhead sized cricket? Are they different from the regular cricket?

Red Wrigglers are earth worms?

I was Googling on Oscar growth. Some people said the Albino Oscar grows slower and smaller than the tiger and red Oscar.

What your opinion on that statement?

Mine grow at the same rate, I have 3 juvies in a 200g, tiger, red & albino, they grow about 1" per month, all will be 6" by end this month. Truth be told the albino may be a hair bigger than the others.
Other albinos I have, tinfoil barbs & poly's, are smaller than natural colored cousins.

Is Albino Oscar genetic mutation by the breeder (hybrid)? Or are there Albino Oscars in the wild?

3 juvies in a 200G? Do you have any other fish in the tank?

I'm already feeling the emptiness in my 75G tank with a small Oscar and a small pleco fish.

Couple of spotted silver dollars, when the oscars get to 10-12" they fill space pretty quickly, so your tank won't remain empty long, pleco's,depending on specie, also become fair size.
Don't think albinos are hybrids, rather than selectively bred.

Pinhead is what the lfs calls baby crickets, and yes red wrigglers are small eartworms.:) Before you buy make sure crickets are labeled as pinhead, or they may sell you medium or even large just for a sale.

I forgot to mention that I have a 4.5" firemouth in my other tank. The Oscar got beat up by the firemouth pretty bad, so I had to move the firemouth to a different tank.

Someone on here recommended the firemouth as the tankmate for my Oscar. It was my fault that did not do the research myself before adding the fish.

Anyway, when can I move the firemouth back to the tank with Oscar? I feel I should wait until the Oscar hit 8"? I did not know firemouth can be that aggressive.

The oscar and firemouth may or may not ever get along. It depends on the individual fish. Oscars can be real wimps once a more feisty fish takes over, regardless of the other fish's size.

I keep and oscar and a green severum in my 75g. The severum is the "tougher" fish, but the pair works for me and I can easily keep nitrates <20ppm between weekly water changes.

Most will tell you a 75g = a single oscar by themselves. I don't disagree with that, but single fish tanks don't do it for me.
