My bass will not take pellets to save their lives. I tried to give them some small pieces of steak and it worked.

They also eat liver. I bought a tub at winco for 1.25. A bunch of feedings to be had there.

I am no expert by any means, and I would love to know if what I am doing is bad because I will stop.

They obviously eat feeders, but nothing else until the steak and liver. They will even eat it off of the bottom of the tank, which surprised me :)

They have started taking it right from my hands though, and hit the brakes if it is a pellet. Have not even been able to get them to put one in there mouth and spit it out. I may trade them soon to someone who is up to the task.

if there eating out of your hand thats a good sign, try to get them on shrimp maybe some catfish or tilapia, if you want to get them onto pellets theres a sticky by dmack on how to do it works for me

They wont eat shrimp either....And I have read the sticky. They are pretty small yet.

Is lean beef sirloin and liver bad for them?

ok.. you've got them eating fresh dead meat, this is a GOOD thing. No need to switch them to pellets.

if they are still tiny, don't worry about getting them to eat shrimp yet, get krill. Frozen krill and brine shrimp are always a big hit. also buy fresh raw tuna and sliced salmon. Purchased in the grocery store these things are all less expensive than "fish food" or anything else you buy in your LFS for the purposes of feeding fish. And far better for the fish.

;)

yea thats what i meant to say its a good thing you have your bass on prepared food pellets arent really necessary cant really use them as a staple because youll go through a bag in a jiffy
as zep stated krill, and other fish from grocer

i raised some pbass from 1" untill they were about 10". i had them eating frozen bloodworms and guppies untill they were about 5 inches, then weaned them onto market shrimp and beef heart. it took some time and effort but eventually they gave in. DMack's sticky was very helpful though.

Hey man :) Like stated above .. But also if you are determined to get them on pellets.. start with somehting that looks like a strip :) I use Azoo aro sticks to start :)

Mine eat everything.. Though I prefer a STAPLE of Live fresh fish.. Still when it comes to crunchin the budget like now.. I use market shrimp.. It is half the cost of Krill..

16 oz krill 7-14.00
32 oz of market shrimp shell on as low as 4.99 and up to 17.99 still much more worth it than kril..

Though I still have krill on the diet for protein :)
