Baby Silver Arowana Tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No sicklids at all. I had a 2 in aro with only a gourmi and after 2 hours he is dead. Later i removed the gourmi lived. Now i have a jardni and silver in a bigger tank.

I have my 2.5" piece in a 15g with three 2" Pacus and three 4.5" Albino Senegals. No problem at all.

I wouldn't recommend putting small Arowanas with other tankmates especially cichlids, until its around 6"+. Small Arowanas are quite defenseless. Your cichlids would most likely destroy a 2" Silver Arowana. ;)

x2

Don't risk it.

I lost a 6" Endli and a 2.5 inch Convict when the Endli hunted it down and tried to swallow it.

I lost another 7" GT when my 16" Endli caught it. Luckily (for the Endli), I could get the dead GT out before the Endli tried to swallow it.

Albino Senegals might be a little less aggressive, but I would still not recommend this combination.

Bottom-line, it is not advisable to keep Aros under 6-8 inches with any tank-mates (besides mollies, guppies i.e. feeders.).

Aggressive fish like Cichlids are definitely a bad idea.

Once you Aro is larger (which will be in the next 6 months), you can take a little more risk. But not now.

(My 2FT Silver Aro is in a 200G with Oscars, Jags, GTs, FL Gars and Endli. This combination is also not very "advisable". But as the fish are large, the risk is significantly less.)

Good luck,

I've kept baby Aros with other baby fish such as bichirs with no problem, but cichlids are a definetely not a good choice.

Mine is with chiclid the species I. Described on previous post, granted they r agressive fish so is bay arowana I have I got the baby aro when 2 inch and now it is 4 inch or so, the most agressive fish in the tank is that wild baby silver second is full grown chinesse algea eater and I just added baby upside down catfish, they all know their place and no harm done, what I expect in coming months the mollies and chilcids to get eaten by the aro if I don't separate them

Seems most any fish will make a good tankmate, right up to the point it kills or maims the baby arowana.
