Baby ST making a comeback?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, I was fool that it was a baby ST. Paid $250 for him when he was 1.5" and thought it was a great price. Oh well, he look great and stable all the time tho. I'm content and happy whatever he is.

That's a good price for the fish you have IMHO. I'd pay that for it. Especially since it's a fighter!!
Sorry about the others mate. I had my 20 inch RTG die on me not long ago, it was my fault when it comes down to it. it sucks. 20,000BHT in the dirt in the garden!!

This is what happens when everyone is still stuck in the past....The whole tail pattern crap you might aswell throw it out the window if thats all you look at when it comes to ID. SA has a 13 ST i looked at yesterday with a IT tail pattern on one side and st pattern on the other side But its a true ST. I just got rid of a 6inch IT with the ST look to the back tail but i know its a IT. Someone drop some money and get a DNA test done on all 3 fish...IT,ST,VN ST and that should tell us something interesting. In theory the ST's dna will be a closer match. Who's got the money to drop and fish dna to spare..lol

Amazing isn't it? Some of the expert here still judges a datnoid from its tail pattern, instead of a fish itself... On top of that, why making more confusion with all those IT, VT, CT, ST.... Make it as simple as it is, D. pulcher or D. microlepis

That comment confused me...

From what I understood, they are still D. pulcher; although not Thai (Chao Praya) but Vietnam and/or Cambodjan pulcher.

I know people are used to consider ST the only really pulcher but - again from my understanding of the issue - the Vietnam and Cambodjan are of the same subpecies (D. pulcher) and not D. microlepis ("Indo").

If my assumptions are correct, it would be ok to sell them as "pulcher" but not ok to sell them as ST.

isn´t that so?
That is part of the controversy here.If anything, these fish should be labeled as widebar pulchers...the ST name should not apply if they do not come from the waters of ST(Thailand,Siam). But then we still have the argument over whether they are in fact pulcher or microlepis.

The tail stripe is not the only thing to look at but it's a good place to start
Yes you can get ST with IT tail stripes but I wouldn't be buying one as it wouldn't have everything I'm looking for in a ST

What a ST needs is ST tail stripe the middle bar must go to a point and sweep back the last bar must have no lump at the top of the stripe the body shape must be more compact and not long like IT it must be stable 24/7

The joke is I'm not sure how much a 15inch real ST will cost in the US but in the UK you are looking about £500-600 so not much more than the small so called ST I would rather pay the extra and be sure I was getting a ST for sure if that's what I wanted rather than take a gamble with $400

£500-600 for 15 inch real ST!!!

Thats not à bad price for uk.

I thought around 1000 was starting price.

Depends on the fish I wouldn't part with mine for less than £2k

But the last 2 I got from Andy was £550 for one and £625 for the other

Makes sense i suppose.
But Since u last bought those 2, i would you say the price of widebars have increased.
They are harder To get now than they were then.
