One thing about parrots of all kinds ...is that they need your committment... for a long long time... when they love and bond with you... they are committed to you 100% and if they are not handled by other people you can become their obsession.. which is unhealthy for both of you.. so while the bird is young.. pass it around to all family members.. so it interacts with all... you can be the master... but they need to know that others are important in their life as well... this makes for a stable bird.. one that won't pluck his feathers out just because your not around... the bond they make with you is the strongest bond i have seen in our domestic pets.. but remember..parrots are not domesticated to that degree.. they are still wild.. so early training is important.. it is sad to me how many birds end up a true nut case and take years to rehabilitate{if that is possible} because they loved thier owner too much..to the point that they actually bonded with the person like a soul mate....
I agree 100%. I love birds, they are one of my favorite pets. Even though my Lilac Crowned amazon likes my wife more than me.

Ive always wanted a bird again, been years. One day I hope my life is stable enough to have one....

my african gray calls out my husbands name all the time.. sits on his head while he helps me with the dishes after dinner.. so they are very compatible.. but he still loves that i have a soft voice and i talk to him.. sort of learned to get different needs met by different people but keeps the important people his main priority. We have had no issues with him because we shared him while he was growing up.. He is like having a child.. he talks over a thousand words cystal clear.. never yells or does anything destructive.. he is secure.. the umbrella was passed over by a few people so we did not get her until she was 10 years old.. she is a screamer..does not eat properly.. only seeds and the healthy bit balls.. anything else she won't touch.. Always whining..inbetween her happy moments.. and we have had her 10 years now..she is alot better.. wow.. but it takes a long time for them to adjust to new owners and new surroundings.. but they still never forget them.. it is a forever torch of grief they feel... your little conure has it very good.. sharing you and your wife plus another bird..i never want to sound like an expert on birds because they are so unique and complex that it really takes many years handling many birds to really consider a person has expertise with them... you should get a book and read up on your type of parrot and what to expect and then try to minimize the negatives and bring out their positives... and once you do this while they are young they stay that way.. creatures of habit...i did find playing the radio for them is a big plus... One other thing i just thought of... its important to consider where you will put the cage.. i found a room where you are active..such as computer room.. but not very noisy is a good place... away from drafts but able to see out of the window is also very good.... and also a quiet place where the cage is covered so the bird can get about 9 or so hours of sleep.. as it gets older it still requires a good amount of rest..

Oh believe me I have quite a bit of experience with birds. He is not my first, nor only bird. I work with birds at my job every day. Which is why I ended up buying this little guy. I have always loved suns, but the last one we had at the store sold before I decided to buy him. Now I have a little hole in my heart, because I bonded with him so well.
