thanks for the advice but would feeding in different containers help? im trying to breed further down the road...

That would help, but make sure you wipe any scent from their food off them, and keep them separate for a while to calm down after feeding (if rodents etc, fruit is ok,doesnt send them as crazy as blood!)

what size enclosure would be ideal for 2 tegus a little over a foot long?
Thx agen for advise!

You need to think long term. What if you get two and they don't get along. What will you do then? Are you going to have space for two massive enclosures?

For a single grpown tegu you need an enclosure at least 8x4x4 and even that is a tad on the small sode. For a pair you will basically need a room dedicated to them. Take it slow and deal with just one. I know that's not the answer you want to hear but that's my advice

Thanks, actually, im taking ur advise cus thats what all people say when they get started in these kinda things, they buy and buy till a problem comes up. Thx Mike!

I have gold tegus and red tegus, not very aggessive due to a lot of time being handled. Always feed outside of their main tank. You dont want a tegu thinking your finger is a pinkie or some type of food. It doesnt tickle lol. Handle a lot, and always keep the tank a little moist, day temp at 88, night temp no lower than 68. If the tank is not moist you may notice your tegu sleeping under the water bowl. Use calcium for live foods such as crickets. They love a variety of foods. Mine eat crickets, meal worms, live and frozen pinkies, live and frozen mice, bananas, fish (occasionally), wax worms and alot of others. It says on the internet that u can feed them almost anything including wet dog food. Stay away from that, its not really good for them.

As for housing two, it's not easy and they need alot of room. NEVER house two males at juvenile size. They will fight.

Hope this helps a little (:
Good luck
