Baby Tigrinus and Lince Catfish Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have never even seen a pic of a lince cat below 7 inch let alone a 3 inch

If you are thinking about putting a lince in a 250 gal you are crazy you need 1000 gal min or forget it

The reason you don't feed tigs sea food is they have problems digesting it until they get past 12 inch carry on feeding krill at your own risk

Please post pics of the Lince when you have a chance. I dont know of anyone importing them at less then 7-8".

As for what you're planning on feeding and house...It seems to me you may need to research a little further before committing to these fish.

Importing lince I have never seen smaller than 10 inch EVER in the UK

The most comen size for importing lince is 12 inch +

I have my lince in a 1000 gal tank and it's starting to look small now

I got my lince 1 year ago now at 15 inch it's now 20 inch so they do grow fast as mine has grown 5 inch in a year

So with the right tank space and right food even a 8 inch lince could be 13 inch in 1 year so would still need a 600 gal tank

The lince is a very very active fish unlike anything you have seen before

I agree with T1-- it's a very bad idea to keep a lince in a 250 gallon tank. As an importer, I will say that I've never seen a juvenile lince offered on any suppliers list. Without pics, I would be skeptical as to whether this 3 inch cat is in fact a lince to begin with.

Agreed. I have never seen a juvenile lince anywhere at anytime ever. You sure you don't have a different pim cat? I would love to see pictures and have you prove us wrong. Until then though, we have our doubts. ;)

No worries guys, when they come, I will have pictures. I have some doubts too, but at the price i'm getting these at, it's worth it. Research, yeah thats really great, but I can honestly not find a great deal on the net about the lince catfish. I know there are a few lince keepers on here, so i'm fairly sure this is called research asking other keepers questions about them.

From the research in this thread, I have learnt that I need freshwater originating food until 12", and that 250 gallon will not last more than a year, and that no one has ever had lince catfish under 7".

To be honest, I won't mind if they aren't lince catfish, if it's some other good looking pim, thats great too, wouldn't mind a goselina  :D.

It's a month or so before the supplier says he can get them to me :).

I think you are getting a bit mixed up as you asked for info on two cats a lince and tigrinus

It's the tigrinus that need to eat pellets until 12 inch a lince can and will eat anything once settled

Another thing you should take into account is when I got my lince it had loads of parasites which brings on the next problem how to quarantine a 12 inch + lince cat that will need a 6x2x2 min tank just to quarantine it

Lince are cheap to buy it's just the dead on arrival rate and the shipping costs that kick up the price as they need a massive box to ship them in

Lince aren't cheap to buy in the states. They usually command a price in the $500+ range. Most of the importers would be quarantining the fish at their facility prior to shipping to the buyer.

This "supplier" that supposedly has these fish...who is it? contact info? If you think it's a good deal on a "Lince" I'm assuming the fish they are telling you is a Lince is definitely not.
