Well the arowana has already survived the shock of moving from the crap water to your tank, so it seeing 50% weekly WCs is not going to hurt it. Personally unless circumstances dictate, I don't waste my time with 10% WCs. For me a 50% WCs is just as easy as 25% WCs so I don't generally do less then 50%.

I think you should try your best to keep it for as long as possible or try to get the guy to lower it even further. Who knows he may go along with it. It's a shame Asian arowana's are illegal in the states.. Kudos to you sir, for taking care of this fish.

Honestly.. I dont have the heart to leave a fish like that.

Im working with him to see if theres something we can workout.

But as of right now, theres someone comming to see him tomorrow morning.

Hopefully he gets picked up by the other guy, assuming he has the resources to take care of it.

Im very happy with him. I almost want to keep him. I just cant pay that kind of money for a fish.

Didn't you say you have a small rtc waiting for this tank???!!! If you can afford to house and maintain something of that size paying $500 for a fish should be easy.

As for the water change debate, that's a whole thread in itself! Unless your tap water is vastly different to your tank water a 50% change probably won't hurt it, but if it's not necessary why waste the water? Smaller regular changes are better for stability sake, but big changes also have their time and place. If the guy dumped his nasty water into your tank a couple of big daily changes would probably be useful to help get the water back in good shape.

As for the food and lighting thing, don't worry about the lighting for now, just focus on getting the fish healthy again. I'd skip the prawn and have a go at feeding Hikari food sticks straight away. With the new environment and improved water the fish may get a sudden surge in appetite and renewed vigour for life and start taking the pellets. If it doesn't then try the shrimp/prawn as a better alternative to feeders, and you could stuff it with pellets if you want.

Yes, luckely my RTC can stay with my friend until theres room.

I payed $18 for the RTC.

I know 140g is not big enough for a permanent home. But its big enough for a good while. I payed quite a bit less for the Tank, the stand and all my filters and heaters then $500,

$500 is alot of money to drop on a single fish regardless of what tank i have.
