TLDR version at bottom
Hey everyone. Well, the guy came and got the saltwater tank. He paid half and took a week or two to come get it. Anyway, kinda holding off on buying new this time. I want a large high tech plated with rope fish and maybe senegalus. I always go out and buy brand new and spend lots of cash but I'm going to be patient this time and keep an eye on online ads.

For now I've set up the only tank I have right now which is an old 40B. I had everything I needed to get it running besides a filter. Decided to put a 525 gph SunSun canister on it because that's what I always use on my bigger tanks. You would think I'd have a tsunami going on in there but the SunSun uses a large spray bar that slows things down. Now I will have a solid canister when I get the new tank.

For this one I was thinking of a few african cichlids. Yes, you're probably thinking "Ew, why?." I don't like african cichlids either. I work for my Dad and in the office building I have my own office. It's 8'x12' and over the 4 years I've been here I've had maybe 8 tanks in here at a time. Then I moved up to a 125 and 75. I've had it all up to 125 and he's ALWAYS wanted me to get cichlids, they're his favorite. So I was thinking of keeping a few africans to get it out of his system while I wait to get a new tank.

Question: Is there any fish in the polypterus Genus that will live with an african cichlid? Keep in mind that I will get a larger tank and I'm turning the water over 13 times an hour. I'm dosing ammonia in the tank right now to build up a solid cycle so mid January I'll be ready to go.

In terms of african cichlids i would stick with tropheus. youll have less problems with aggression. my only worry would be theyre size with the poly's. but i think most polys could hold their own depending on what kind of african cichlids you're considering.

I personally have 1 male Peacock in a 55 gal with 4 Senegalus Polys but keep your eye out for aggression.20171222_112318_Film1.jpg

This is where I'll probably order from. I was thinking Peacocks. I see 5" wild ropefish on this list. Need to keep them in a groups of 3 to 5.

Tropheus moorii "Chimba" Small (1"+ to 1.5") TR $20.00 *nudge nudge* haha

Also id go golddust and palmas palmas with and a few ropes. i personally wouldnt go with peacocks. i think they will be too territorial. that's just my opinion.

I absolutely agree with you after awhile the Nagara Flametail got territorial and switched him out with the younger Sunshine Peacock.

I think you should go the Tropheus Moorii route much smaller and less aggressive also you could do a group instead of 1 Peacock.

That Chimba is good looking. Will definitely keep that one in mind. I figured the poly and african cichlid paring would be tough but I wanted to see what you guys have experienced. I could always go the peacock route and wait for the polys but really... who wants to wait for the polys!?!
