Don't buy the ropes until the tank is super stable! They're wild caught and will be more sensitive. More will come. I appreciate you being patient and not listening to the impulsive J jaws7777 and twentyleagues twentyleagues . *smacks them*
Sheesh.

Go grab a bunch of floating plants. They will help with your cycle.

Owwww! Sheesh! Why you gotta hit me. I was kinda kidding..... I don't think the tests are right. I'd go to my lfs and have them test it if that's what I was getting just sounds weird is all. But magpie magpie is right don't cycle a tank with ropes:oops:

I had them test my water and we're coming up with the same answers. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Won't be long on the cycle

Good news! Nitrites are coming down as of this morning. it's either 1ppm or 2ppm but much better than 5ppm or more. It must of been so high that it took a while to register on my tests.

Awesome. Thia product never fails !!!

I think you'll be done soon.

When i moved the fish into the 300 it went through a mini cycle. This went on for a couple of weeks until i gave in and dosed with tss. The fish were fine through this.

Now if you were doing a fish in cycle from scratch and not dosing then yeah no way id say get the ropes and hey consodering what some lfs tanks are like a couple of days exposure to nitrite may be an improvement lol

That's so weird. Didn't that happen with the salt too? I was thinking test was faulty. From what I've heard the bacteria that breaks down the nitrite is more fragile and harder to grow then the ammonia eating ones. I don't know how true that is. I've never had an issue like that. When I was young we always did fish cycles. You'd get some dirty filter sponge or a scoop of gravel from lfs or a buddy and put some fish in the tank and bam usually good in a couple weeks. As I got older I haven't changed much I use a bacteria supplement now dose fish dose check dose check dose good add more fish dose check good weekly dose for about 4 weeks and if I add fish dose. After a couple months bb is strong and you are good. Biggest bioload I added at onetime were the filamented barbs to the 75 params never wavered. I'd see nitrite on a test if I tested at exactly the right time. If not I'd usually only see a little ammonia and then nitrate. Somewhere around 18-24 hrs after adding some ammonia source and the microbacter you can see nitrate you've got about 8 hr window to catch it with the daily dosing. If not after about 24hrs you can test and get nitrate readings. You have to keep dosing though for the amount of time. I think it's a minimum of a week to build the population but I don't stock very heavily to start so I do it gradually over a month. I guess I've gone on long enough now....lol

Things are well! Busy and enjoying the new city and house. I only lurk on here lately... got a bearded dragon living in a 100 gallon so for now my larger aquarium is on hold. I can actually interact and hold this guy. ;) Still want a larger tank but it won't be soon.

Did you just now aquire the dragon? I was playing with one the other day and they're so cool I've kinda crossed over a little into snakes. I have two. I have a mystic potion ball python and a mexican black kingsnake.

OH BTW Nitrites are ZEROOOOO yay

Woohoo on no nitrites!

Gonna go for a Dragon Derail....

Yeah, I just got him in December from a friend who had him for her son who lost interest over the years. I've always been interested in reptiles and this just seemed to be right place, right time kind of thing. He got some serious quality of life upgrades with me. (You know how I research and go for a naturalistic aquarium setup... well the same applies to the dragon. ;) ) He's 3-4 years old, and named Calvin.

"Before" setup: 40 breeder, barely any decor, no hides, disgusting repticarpet. Mostly pelleted diet with some bugs and some veg mixed in.

"After": 100 gallon (got with stand for $100 on CL!), more enrichment, sand/soil substrate, better heat gradients and UVB lighting. Fresh veggies every day, bugs every other. Time out of the viv most days.

Dragons apparently cannot smell. ;)
