Back from hiatus | 190 Discus Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I read on glassbox 1200 lumens.

Here's a review on them as well.

That spread is not bad on the 75. It gives a very natural glow to the tank which is great since you said you were going that route.

The one's I'm getting are 14k and 20k so a lot less natural than your setup but I plan on aquascaping a bit unnatural as well.

You discus are huge!!

This is my inspiration. I'm saving the natural look for my reef.

Very cool! It would take 3 of those little flood lamps to give the output of one of those. Definitely got a great deal on them, just not sure if the color would work on my setup. Ah what to do?!?! I've also been thinking of going the DIY route.

I'm thinking that 6-8 of these little floodlamps would give me the look I'm after, since I don't want super bright. Will cost me $200 or so. Thinking of 3 cool white and 3 warm white. And yeah, I'm going for the raw/exposed/industrial look with exposed lights, I just love the look! We'll see.

Can't wait to see how this tank comes along! Here's a pic of my tank, all I have for now. Sorry for the derail lol!

No derail at all.. just an exchanging of ideas.

That is a nice tank! Looks like you got it new!

What was the price on a tank with those dimensions as I assume it's custom?

hey im also in the precess of seting up a discus tank mines a little 55 though and its more of a bought setup. your thread is great i will stay tuned

Thanks for chiming in... 55 is a nice starter tank. Why not invest in something bigger now so you won't have to move when your discus grow? Also the bigger tank you get the more MFKish you can make it :)

id love to but i have 2 options have a budget big tank or a pristine brand new 'display' kind of tank and i chose the later because all my other tanks are budget and i wanted something nice btw im 15 and work 2 or 3 days a week generally but im getting extra shifts soon yaay

Looks like your on a good start, Im sure I will be borrowing up some of your ideas for my 120g setup. Im not sure if Im doing discus but its a real possibility, anyways I like the plan you have set out, a lot. Do you have any ideas on what tetras your going with, and Im with you on the fancy plecos I got 2 gold nuggets and I want a bunch more sp. Your plan now has me debating what I want to do with my setup.

Thanks! The tank was slightly used, that was a pic of it when first built. But you can't even tell it had water in it. Got it from a vendor here for a great price, $275! 1/2" glass all around

Thanks for the compliments!

I'm not sure on which tetras yet. Probably something at the LFS.

I plan keeping the whole tank to a simplistic design. That goes for color, stand design, plumbing, etc. I think I will be going for some sort of neutral color tetras that done get too big. So far thats it.. guess I can wing a this part for now :)

Gold nuggets are great looking plecos. I think they would fit the color scheme I'm going for too!

15 with 2 tanks and one is a 55gallon! You were WAY ahead of me at that age :) Good luck with the extra shifts.

Thats a good deal! I picked up the 190 acrylic with the wet dry and the little giant pump (which needs some parts) for $390 dropped off right at my door.
