Honestly not much has changed in the freshwater world.

A lot has changed in the saltwater (especially reef) world.

There's a ton to learn from aquarium books, even older ones. I'd put Paul Loiselle's "The Cichld Aquarium" up against anything on the market today.

Like anything, they're not perfect but it's amazing the fish that people kept and bred back in the day. Go back and re-read them

Found some of my old fish keeping books. It's quite interesting to see the progress of knowledge, technological advancements, and even aquascaping from then and now. For starters, I found it interesting that one of the books suggests that fish can be added at least 24 hours after set up.

I don't have any issue with the advice given about adding fish after 24 hrs. There's no mention of the nitrogen cycle in the book?

I'd assume that they're recommending to wait 24 hrs to ensure that the equipment is running properly, the temperature is right and that chlorine has dissipated...probably would have been BETTER advice to recommend adding some (or a couple) fish...and/or to add some media or substrate from an existing tank... but it's not off base...

Here's the ones at my fiance's parents. I think one is missing though. I'll see what's in that old freshwater one if I can find it at my parents.

Interestingly those talk about cycling and then the one from 1984( the beat up poster one) just says this... I don't think there were any other mentions of any cycling at all. LMAO.

Technically there is some leniency.. As long as no fish are harmed, I let people do as they choose- no questions asked. It's just a better way to be, if you ask me.
