i say go the more peaceful route. You can keep it to a single species but personally i would do 1-2 chocolate cichlid, 2-3 severums, maybe a group (5-6) of geophagus or a group (5-6) of festivum. It would make a cool show tank while the chocos and severums would still give you tons of personality and interaction.

I really don't know much about the chocolates, except for the fact that they are readily available around here. I've kept quite a few cichlids, and they aren't one of them so I haven't given them much consideration, they do seem very similar to the Sevs. Thanks for the input.

I'm thinking of going with 4-5 Sevs (maybe two gold three green) and calling it good.

Does anyone know of any good bottom dwellers that'll stay big enough to not get eaten, but not so big I'll blow my stock? Maybe a school of corys?

Chocos are very much like sevs, Mine is a Huge softy and doesnt mess with any of my other cichlids so far. He is approx 8in and is in a tank with some 3-4 inch lyonsi. He can drastically change colors on the drop of a dime and can do many different patterns as well. I think 4-5 sevs is going to look amazing!! How are you thinking of doing the aquascape? Any plants? :) I say go with a school of cories. I have kept other catfish and none seem nearly as active or have as much personality as the cories i have.

Aquascape will be a partial foam BG (DIY) with large rock piles in the two back corners to hide all plumbing, wiring, etc. with the back of the tank painted black.

I'm going to make rocks out of foam and actually silicone them to the bottom of the tank, and all SILK plants will be fixed into the rocks so I don't need to be constantly replanting them. Other than the two large rock piles, driftwood will be the real feature, looking for a 4' long branch to go across the center of the tank.

As far as light goes, I'm thinking of using two standard CFL bulbs, or possibly a small led strip. I'd really like to keep the light limited, as it's not necessary, and I enjoy the look of directional lighting.

i agree with severums i always have had one or more in my tanks over the years, they are just so interesting. i cant agree more with managuense, or parachromis in general. when they spawn its just so interesting to say the least. red tiger motaguense are always a pleasure to own too. if your going to go with severums the super reds are really cool and my personal favorite are the rotkiel severums.

my favorite things to put with severums are Uaru, and petenia splendida (snooks) if your looking for a bit of a mix but not a random community

As on both fronts you have No bloody idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This man has NO idea about anything except his own, very limited and non experienced viewes on things.......................

your post shows that you also know nothing about me, I've kept cichlids for 10 years and am more than qualified to give information on them.

I've never heard of a chocolate beating on a sev from anyone I've known to have them, and if its any other way its the severum hasseling the Chocolate cichlid.
what was that Quintas? was you just talking about your own "limited and non experienced views on things?"

I Lived in England for actually most of my life and am more than qualified to state what its like to live there, after all I only moved from there a few months ago.

seriously do you know nothing? youre derailing a perfectly good thread for personal flaming and I hope a moderator will remove your comment as its relates little to the question asked.

don't go around defaming members you don't know anything about, If you want to talk to me send me a message I'm more than happy to respond so Let's let this thread be helpful to the starter by you not doing ^^ that.

I've made up my mind on Sevs, now to convince my girl that they are pretty after convincing her on the jags :)

Would 6 with a small school of corys be too much? Biggest I've grown one was about 8" and biggest I've seen is slightly bigger than that.
