Bacteria affecting new rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still looking for binox. Have the 100 mile drive tommorow. Took 4 hours to get all the substrate out with all the rays bouncing around and the 10" openings. Thought the hose would stress them out....nope just made them curious and kept stirring everything up.
Thanks for your help guys.
Hate to say this but dam glad you get these problems first Mike so you can help us all out after. lol

Wonderinging has anybody lost any rays yet from this bacteria?

WC rays suck.... One of mine have it very minimally as well.

I have lost some pups form this problem and I was told by Mark and Lode from NL who really helped me with this problem that they know a guy who lost 8 mature black rays from this.

Sorry to hear you lost some rays with this. Glad you and the other guys found the solution.
Still can't find any Binox should I was maracyn or just heat and salt?

can't really tell from pics, but good luck. maybe try upping your water changes and see if that helps

It seems to be happening to my rays right now as well. disc edge erosion on the smaller flowers, and lifting of disc in rear, seems it may be irritated. adding the salt and going to try and get temp to 90.

I am going to treat with Kanamycin sulfate if symptoms are present tomorrow

I cannot find binox anywhere near here. What the one lfs said to use was either furan-2 or bifuran+ which also cointains furazolidone where binox doesn't. Would this work or is it a disaster waiting to happen

I don't know what binox has in it but the good ole Dr. Ross freshwater stingrays book talks about using nitrofurazone. Now what products contain that I have no clue. I had a tank in question and just dumped 2 cups of bleach in it (of courese no fish in tank), ran it for 2 days whiping everything out and starting fresh. I had 2 rays die in this tank and will not take anymore chances.
