Bacteria affecting new rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Furan 2 (Nitrofurazone) is recommended by Ross when not injecting. It is more readily absorbed by the
ray and does not damage the Biological Bacteria .
He reccommends 250mg per 25 gallons and treatment every three days, with 50 water
changes between treatments.

I have never used Binox, but if Mike recommends it I am sure it will do the job also.

Was it furan 2 or nitrofurazone. Binox is just nitrofurazone while furan 2 also contains furazolidone which I read was not ray safe. I've been dosing at 150mg per 25 gallons of nitrofurazone and and 62.5mg of furazolidone according to instructions. The first 2 doses were done at half doses over 12 hour peroids instead of full doses over 24 hour peroids to see the effects on the rays. So far it looks good, the last dose is tonight. I guess we'll have to wait and see if there is any long term effects. Thanks for the help the tank will be an expnsive lesson if things go wrong. lol

He was speaking of just nitrofurazone specifically. He refers to the combo that
you speak. He states that combination type meds being confusing
because of not knowing which med in the combo is being effective.
But he does reference Nitrofurazone specifically in the context that I first
reference in my previous post.
It is in the Aqualog Special "Freshwater Stingrays from South America"
Pg. 38-39 under Medical Treatment.

So looking for some help. Furan-2 is something I would not recommend for rays. They looked like they were getting better but stopped eating and began breathng very heavy. I quit treatment on day 4 without doing the last dose. I've went back to high temp and salt not knowing anything else to do. Two of the six rays are not eating the leos have now began to get white spots, the rest are eating less and less.
Any thoughts?

add maracyn and maracyn2 if you can not get binox.... those meds have been great to me on rays...

Still willing to ship Binox. Can get creative if needed.
