IF the bio was shot wouldn't that stick out like a sore thumb in the water parameters?

Are you saying each time you dose Binox you loose 1/3 of your Bio?

Man this meds stuff as of lately is getting kinda scary.....

I haven't even opened my binox yet.

binox knocks out 30% of your bio.... mike posted that in another thread....

there are many more reasons why i swear by mardells maracyn and maracyn2.... never once had bio filter problems.....

I was told nothing more than "It doesn't do much, just feed light for a couple days"

Doesn't seem like Tank had any problems with his treatment.....

So I guess thew wise thing to do would be to remove some media first, then treat, then re-add the media for a jump start?

you need some way to keep that media alive for a few days...

Nic, I might haver been born at night, but not last night.

It's not like I'm just gonna huck it in a bucket. I'd treat it like fishes.

Like a 55 with preseeded ac 110s and maybe even a heater.... :naughty: But wether I'd keep it bare bottom or with sand, that's still up for debate.

not for you but general for the noobs reading this..... come on you know there are some people here that would just throw it in a bucket and not give it anything to keep it alive;)

Been awhile thought I'd update. Took the meds out on the 25th. The rays scratched quite a bit for 2 days then alot more on the 3rd day. Some are keeping there whole disk up and resting on there mouth and tips of there pelvic fins the others are stuck to the side of the tank and won't rest on the bottom. They're eating habits have changed quite a bit They use to eat 18 large shrimp a day and 50-60 nightcrawlers and the ones that are eating are now eating are eating 2-4 shrimp and 10-15 nughtcrawlers a day. Day 4 off and they're only scratching a bit and looking calmer. My one ray can only swim backwards. Eatin habits are the same. Today the scratching is very rare, most of the rays are spending more time on the bottom instead of the sides. The backwards swimming ray can swim slowly forwards but when trying to go quick it goes backwards again. They aren't holding there disk up as much, eating is about the same but there is more interest. The one still doesn't seem to have the ability to eat but is trying and I have been able to add salt at 2lb per 100 gallons. The switch from prime to another water conditioner like tank and nic said while on meds was very helpful also. All and all things look better. I think it'll take awhile for there eating habits to kick in.

So a little more of an update. I read david's post and what a great read it was, I think I needed to see that sooner. Anyways since my last post 3 of the 5 rays where eating allright and 2 where not eating at all. The one ray that was the worse off and hadn't eaten for at least 3-4 weeks and had the most damage on the disk was moved into the same system as my leos which is on a drip system 2 days ago and seems to be doing better there but still hasn't eaten. My other rays still seem to spend most of there time stuck to the side of the tank when resting and not on the bottom. The bottom is barebottom right now with only a air bubbler on it. The tank is a 8'x2'x30" tank with 2 fx5 filters (intakes 2" from bottom and outputs about 1-2" from the top) and 2 ehiem pros (intakes in the middle and spray bars running from top to middle). Filters are all clean. My water parameters are good (0 ammonia ,0.1 nitrite and 20 ppm or less nitrate). I've been doing water changes with nutrafins aquastop water conditioner and premixing in a barrel and pumping over, doing 1/3 of the water each time about twice a week. My water temp is 81-82 but will be going down after reading davids post. Anything else I need to add then let me know please. Anyways I'm just wondering why the rays will not rest on the bottom at all. Before this problem they all rested on the bottom and never the sides. p.s. my other ray has probably been 2 weeks since it ate last but had alot of weight and was healthy before so not to worried about it yet. To me there is stilll something wrong in the tank but I'm stumped at what. Seeing that your back david I was really hoping you could lend some advice my way or anyone else the help would be great.

Okay another xingu quit eating. So only one of the four xingus are eating. The good news is the flower in the tank is getting better and the color and appetite are coming back. I guess I just sit back now and see how it plays out. If it goes bad it's back to beers and blonds which may be cheaper....maybe....:)
