Finrot is possible. You haven't answered my question what its tankmates are. Tank size as well?

Separate the fish and do daily water changes as necessary. I'd keep a teaspoon or two per gallon of salt to keep bacteria from latching on that infected area.

sir he has tons of tankmates, bichirs, flag tail, banded leporinus, a clown knife fish, and several silver dollars in a 150 gallon tank.... is heater necessary?

No, but it may still prove beneficial regardless. Do you have a spare tank or tub for your lungfish? This needs to be separated IMO. Clean water is your best defense at this point to avoid further infection. Use salt as instructed earlier.

Hope the issue will resolve itself quickly with salt and clean water. No need for anything else at this point. I'd watch the clown knife carefully for behavioral changes. It's another one aside from your leporinus that may also contribute to this issue. Leporinus and knife are definitely top suspects in my book.

yes sir, because as i was changing the water in the tank earlier i noticed that the ck tried to check out his tail but then i knocked at my tank, i really couldn't understand. i slept this morning before i slept i fed fy fishes and all was good. woke up earlier, turned the lights on and my lungfish is swimming at the surface and to my surprise i saw that his tail is completely destroyed. by the way my lung is way bigger thatn my ck and leporinus. lung is 14", ck is around 8 to 9" and leporinus is 6 to 7" but then the lung is the most inactive fish in my tank.

Size will not matter for knives and leporinus. They'll harass their tankmates eventually. Do you plan to separate those two?

Personally i don't think what you have is fin rot. Fin rot (from what I have seen) rounds out the fins. Your lung seems to have tattered fins as if a fish is nipping on it. Also, other fish should be affected if this was a case of fin rot.

Hope that helps...and I am no expert.
Chris

well, i can see that the fin of my ck itself has a bit of damage, also the tail of my flagtail and small silver arowana has missing parts in its tail.

the ck has been their in the tank for quite some time with the others and there was no issue. the leporinus has been their for just less than a week. i'm confused really.

Fin rot can kill a fish fast! Isolate the fish in a 5 gallon bucket. Add tap water to fill the bucket and make sure it is close to the same temp as your tank. Add 1 capful of stress coat, 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt and the recomended amount of coper safe fish medication for 5 gallons of water. Repeat this cycle every day and see if there is any progress. If it were summer I would recomend using rain water or lake water, because sometimes using natural water and isloation is all you need. Also do not feed the fish while it is being meidcated. I would recommend doing a 50 percent water change on your fish tank while the sick fish is in isolation so no further outbreaks occur. Depending on the size of your tank mix 1 teaspoon of aqaurium salt for every 5 gallons and 1 teaspoon of stresscoat for every 10 gallons, and put a penny in your filter. These techniques have worked for me in the past. Clean fresh water always seems to get fish healthy and keep them that way. If you need any further help then email me here.
