bad crappy petshop.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
suprisingly the wal-mart here is well kept too, they don't know much about fish species or growth, but they can take care of some fish. they even have a Q tank for sick fish. The little care sheets are allways wrong on the growth though. The whole it will only get as big as it's tank myth abounds. Sure it will only get as big as it's tank, then it will die.

Both the walmarts where I live don't carry fish. When I first moved here in 1991, they did, but very shortly after that they got rid of all the fish. They still carry supplies, but not the fish themselves. When they did have them, I would never have bought from them, they always looked sick. I have seen some super Walmarts that carry fish. But our stupid city commission won't allow a super center unless they meet a lot of ridiculous demands. We are now getting one, but who knows when that will be. I think I would have said something about the employee selling ick infected fish as glittery. There is no point whatsoever in killing a fish just to make a profit, (except for the obvious of killing one for food, which is not the case here.)

Unfortunately there are more crappy fish stores than good ones.

no doubt about that need some old school mom and pop shops none left all pushed aside by the mega chains........... HAIL the all mighty dollar............

GLITTER FISH wonder if that is part of walmarts training, you should see employees try to doge you when they see you need fish. funny watching them try to catch them, i usually take the net and catch the ones i want after the 5 dollar an hour fool tries unsuccessfully for 10 minutes

yea we used to have nice ma and pa fish shops heres, all gone when walmart came to town, so now we have goldfish, tetras and common cichlids to choose from, oh yea, you can get a betta in a cup too

Glitterfish, thats a good one.

The first tank I bought was a 20 gallon from petsmart (didnt have internet or a car back then). An employee suggested I get 2 oscars for this tank, and will be fine for life.

Just as a note...

It is probably not a good idea to rescue fish. You are starting off with a weakened specimen, which is bad for you and any of your other fish if you don't quarantine.

More importantly, you encourage the people who are keeping these fish in substandard conditions. All fish stores will have some dead or sick fish, but if it is the rule at any store, just don't buy. I'm glad when I hear a Wal-Mart has stopped selling fish. It just helps the smaller fish stores where people actually care.

I wonder what wal-mart sells as a blood-fin tetra?

there was a pet store where i went to college, evidently the guy who ran it was on the lamb from the FBI (a good friend of mine worked for him)
so anyway, the fbi found him and he took off and left everything in the store
my buddy got a parrot and whatever else that was left in the store, but i don't think Christian was able to save everything
