bad habits while working on tanks??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
good grief, you guys are dumb LMAO!!!!!! If you do something enough times it becomes muscle memory and you naturally unplug things BEFORE starting the WC haha Besides, heaters are supposed to be unplugged 15 minutes before taking them in or out of water so they can be at room temperature. I don't mean to be a douche, but I can't help but laugh at this stuff - that's not being very smart or aware.
You say dumb, I say forgetful. :P

always forget to unplug the heaters, until i smell the burning lol. ..I don't run wet/dry on my set up so I can't put in the sump. Thats the only bad habit for me.
just run everything off a switched powerboard and turn the switch board off when doing wcs. i learnt the hard way too with two melted plastic heater guards and ruined heaters.

my personal bad habit is reaching into the tank to do gravel vacs between water changes and leaving everything running, which is a big no no from an electrical safety point of view. I don't have an RCD because it kept tripping for no reason and I'm paranoid it will trip when I am away and I'll lose all my fish from hypothermia/ammonia spikes due to stopped filtration. I DO use long rubber gloves though. I hope that they would protect me enough in case one of my lights falls into the tank whilst I'm vaccing.

My bad habit(probably not that bad of habit lol), I've been trying to avoid is similar to THQ's but I'm trying not to put my hands in tank but more for the risk of mycobacterium infections. I know the chance of getting an infection is pretty remote but it does/can happen.

Not that remote. I got it a few years back. I believe it was from a dead koi when I removed it from a pond. I'll see if I can find the photo. My hand was pretty bad. I was on meds for two months.

Thats scary. Myco infections and vibrio look like they can get pretty bad, yikes

Doctor called it Fish Granuloma. He said people who maintain fish tanks or pools tend to get it.
