Got back from holiday acouple of days ago and i have found out that my brother has killed my Wild caught female Festae along with 3x5"+ clown loaches:irked::(, The Festae died from lack of oxygen as for some reason he pulled the airstone out of the water:screwy::cry:

man that really suck! sorry. why did he pull the airstone out of the water?!?!?! how old is your brother? i hope he's only 3~4 if he did that!

damn, what a bummer. It always makes me so nervous leaving my fish in the care of others. I have got a auto feeder I set to feed just a bit everyday and I cover the tank with a blanket. Longest I have left is 10 days or so, works well.

I am still always nervous when I get back what I am going to find under the blanket.

man that is rubbish, i am going away soon, got me nervous.

Airstones really don't do crap, as long as you have a filter running you've got plenty oxygen exchange.

Oxygen exchange only happen on the surface of the water, so when the bubble break the surface and agitate the water, some o2 exchange happens, but it isn't much.

So it was most likely something else.

Agree with Modest Man, there had to be an underlying factor, perhaps the tank was exposed to chemicals or something (like from aerosol sprays)

I just 1+1 together, he said he saw them gasping at the surface, died the day later, and i come back to find the airstone out. All my tanks have airstones in.

I doubt it, but could happen.....if i take my airstones out fish would start gasping at the surface.....

What temp is the tank at? As stated by Modest Man, air stones really don't do much but break surface tension. If the fish are gasping without one, then something else is going on. The reason I ask about the temp, is warmer water holds less oxygen.
