What ever you deiced to do make sure you check e-bay first. I bought a Quantum there for $160 and at bass pro shop it was $230. It was brand new still in the box.

I stay away from Shimano dont get me wrong I just dont like them. Daiwa I think make better reels and they are around the same price as the Shimanos. The Calcutta is mainly for heavyer type fishing like going deep or throw heavy baits. The other is more of a low profile reel. Another thing is what will you be useing these reels for?

you are the only person I've ever come across to say Daiwa and Shimano are the same, then select it too. you must have used some bootleg Shimanos or dont know what you're talking about.

If you're just looking for 1 than go for the Calcutta. If your lucky, you might find a nice combo deal at bass pro shop.

I say he does not know what he's talking about, Daiwas are usually cheaper than shimano, shimanos make the smoothest reels out there whether they're spinners or baitcasters. shimano sets their prices so any retailer you go too will have the same price. If you're fishing rivers and bays go w/ a cheaper baitcaster a calcutta would be overkill for fish under 10 lbs.

i definetly say try ebay, i got my 4 curado's for $150.

seems like youll be a newbie to baitcasting, shimano is probably the best out there.. but since youll be a beginner maybe you shouldnt leap into the 200 dollar reels just yet. another great reel for the money is abu garcia. just my 2cents.

Thanks for the suggestions again guys, my b-day is coming up in a couple weeks so i'll probably get some new goodies soon. Ill post pics if i do.

Go with a penn reel they can be used for fw or sw, They are made in america in philly. They are a great reel. They are better than they used to be, they had some weight to them but now they are made out of carbon much lighter and smoother. imo
